Overview

This course presents the basic, intermediate, and advanced features of regular expressions. In addition, usage of regular expressions in many common Unix / Linux tools is shown, along with additional application specific expression capabilities built into other tools (such as Perl). Numerous exercises throughout the class instill the regex concepts. This course supports all Unix and Linux variants.

Learning Objectives:
To gain a good foundation in the use of regular expressions, and to be able to apply their usage in: standard Unix / Linux tools, shell scripts, awk / gawk, Perl, and other languages.

Target Audience

Programmers, system administrators, or anyone wishing to leverage the power of regular expressions.

Prerequisites

Basic computer skills; proficiency working at the command line. Unix/Linux fundamentals knowledge is recommended.
