5. Tabled Postings

CHEM
437L: Biochemistry Laboratory (Change: Prerequisite) - The UGC tabled
CHEM 437L because the committee did not understand the prerequisite. The
UGC has questions regarding if a student who has 351L and 300 and is taking
437 can still be denied entry into the course? If so, on what grounds?
What are the criteria for the instructor's consent?
-
CHEM
455: Introduction to Biomedical Chemistry (Change: Prerequisite) - The
UGC tabled CHEM 455 it was not persuaded by the Departments rationale and
finds the action premature. If students have needed Biology 100 until now,
why can they all of a sudden do without it, just because it MAY be phased
out, in the future, by the Biology Department? The UGC would like to see
an academic rationale.
-
EHS
451: Field Experience in Emergency Health Services Systems (Change: Max
Credits & Description) - The UGC tabled EHS 451 because it was confusing
for the committee. The UGC would like some clarification from the Department
about the relationship between 450 and 451. They sound like the same course.
If that is true, might it be easier to have variable credit for 450 so students
can do their placement in anywhere from 1-4 semesters, and do away with
451? That would be less confusing than having two courses. If they are not
the same, does that mean students could take both courses for 15 credits
each, for a total of 30? Lastly, should 451 have a pre-requisite?
-
-
GES
404: Forest Ecology (New) - The UGC tabled GES 404 and 419. The committee
needs a more complete syllabi in order to consider these courses. As soon
as the UGC receives them, the courses will be placed back on the agenda.
-
-
IS
449: Applied Web Development (New) - THe UGC tabled IS 449 the committee
would like to see a more detailed syllabus in order to consider the course.
As soon as the UGC receives it, it will be placed back on the agenda.
-
-
MLL
319 Images of Society in Contemporary French Films (Change: Prerequisite)
- The UGC tabled MLL 319 and MLL 340 because the committee has questions
regarding the pre-requisite of "junior/senior standing." In
an earlier course, the department pointed out that class standing is not
important; preparedness is. The UGC no longer accepts class standing as
a valid pre-requisite. The UGC would like for the Department you to come
up with a more precise pre-requisite (or required course preparation)
instead - a certain number of upper level credits in particular disciplines.

-
PHED
122: Self Defense (Change: Title & Description) - The UGC is requesting
that the Department de-activate PHED 122 (Registrar's Office) and propose
a new course which will require them to fill out a new course proposal form
and to request a new course number from the Registrar office.
Meeting adjourned until October
8, 2009.
