the ROTC courses and after a lengthy discussion decided to request additional
information from from LTC S. Pomper at Johns Hopkins University. The UGC also
charged Dr. Stapleton with the assignment of finding out what the policy is
regarding transfer credits from USM.
3. Postings
The following
postings discussed and approved:
4. Tabled Postings:
The following tabled
postings will be removed from the Undergraduate Council's agenda until the
Departments submit the requested information.
-
-
CHEM
437L: Biochemistry Laboratory (Change: Prerequisite) - The UGC tabled
CHEM 437L because the committee did not understand the prerequisite. The
UGC has questions regarding if a student who has 351L and 300 and is taking
437 can still be denied entry into the course? If so, on what grounds?
What are the criteria for the instructor's consent?
-
CHEM
455: Introduction to Biomedical Chemistry (Change: Prerequisite) - The
UGC tabled CHEM 455 it was not persuaded by the Departments rationale and
finds the action premature. If students have needed Biology 100 until now,
why can they all of a sudden do without it, just because it MAY be phased
out, in the future, by the Biology Department? The UGC would like to see
an academic rationale.
-
IS
449: Applied Web Development (New) - The UGC tabled IS 449 the committee
would like to see a more detailed syllabus in order to consider the course.
As soon as the UGC receives it, it will be placed back on the agenda.
-
-
MLL
319 Images of Society in Contemporary French Films (Change: Prerequisite)
- The UGC tabled MLL 319 and MLL 340 because the committee has questions
regarding the prerequisite of "junior/senior standing." In an
earlier course, the department pointed out that class standing is not
important; preparedness is. The UGC no longer accepts class standing as
a valid prerequisite. The UGC would like for the Department you to come
up with a more precise prerequisite (or required course preparation) instead
- a certain number of upper level credits in particular disciplines.
-
-
PHED
122: Self Defense (Change: Title & Description) - The UGC is requesting
that the Department deactivate PHED 122 (Registrar's Office) and propose
a new course which will require them to fill out a new course proposal form
and to request a new course number from the Registrar office.
Meeting adjourned until October
22, 2009.
