Health Education Programs
The mission of the UHS Office of Health Education is to provide accurate and comprehensive education about health and wellness for the UMBC campus community.
Our vision is to create a culture in which all members of the UMBC community have the information and skills they need to make responsible, well-informed decisions regarding their health and well-being while at UMBC and throughout their lives. We are committed to ongoing assessment and evaluation in search of innovative methods to pursue our vision.
A variety of health promotion activities and health education programs are available to your residence halls, classrooms and organizations. Programs can be scheduled by calling the Health Education office at 410-455-1558 or by filling a program request form. Please drop off the program request form to The Office of Health Education or email it to uhs@umbc.edu.
Peer Health Advocates
The Peer Health Advocates Program trains UMBC students to educate and serve as Advocates for other UMBC students, staff and faculty. Advocates can earn 3 academic credits per semester in Social Work (SOWK) for their participation in the program. Students may earn a maximum of 12 credits through the Peer Health Advocates Program. Health Program Topics
Health Education programs are designed to provide information and skills that enable participants to make smart decisions regarding their health and well-being. Our health educators and a team of trained Peer Health Advocates provide a wide variety of programs throughout the campus community. These programs include the following topics:
- Alcohol and Other Drugs
- Healthy Relationships
- Stress Management and Relaxation Techniques
- Nutrition and Exercise
- Eating Disorders
- STI and HIV/AIDS Education
- Sexual and Reproductive Health
- Sexual Assault
- And many more!
