About UMBC Serves PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 13 October 2007

At the start of the 2007 academic year, many groups have been formed to collaborate in efforts towards service here on the campus of UMBC.  It is our hope that through this collaboration, our student population will not only be more aware about various service events, but also schedule events for weekends or days in which service may not be happening.  The more opportunities we can create to serve the better and it is through these collaborative groups that this can hopefully occur.  If you are interested in taking part in these efforts, please contact Jordanna Spencer at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Some of our groups are:

SOWS: Student Orgs Who Serve is a recently developed committee comprised of members from any student organization on campus that prioritizes service.  This committee meets once per month and has extended invitations to over thirty student orgs.  At SOWS meetings student representatives submit calendar events to be put into a master service calendar on UMBC Serves website.  This group is dedicated to promoting and discovering various service opportunities on campus and report back to their perspective groups campus wide service opportunities.

UMBC Serves: A UMBC wide departmental group comprised of staff from The Shriver Center, Residential Life, UMBC Athletics and the Office of Student Life and one student representative from SOWS.  UMBC Serves sponsors two large scale service events per semester.  Meeting monthly, this group also helps to promote and advertise service campus wide via the service calendar.

There are other committees in which students, faculty and staff are encouraged to be a part of such as the Alternative Spring Break Leadership Team, the Small Scale Service trip events as well as our 4 annual Red Cross Blood Drives.  For more information contact Jordanna Spencer at 53457 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
