Provost Johnson's View on Integrity
"Each of us has an obligation to act with integrity in our scholarship and general academic work. This is an obligation to ourselves, our colleagues, and the UMBC community. We especially have an obligation to the general public, whose tax dollars support scholarships and graduate assistantships, UMBC as a public institution, and the research effort funded by state and federal agencies. It is critical that the public and its elected representatives have confidence that our achievements are honestly earned and stand on their merit; that research results produced by UMBC students and faculty are valid; and that a UMBC degree represents honest work and accomplishment. Most importantly, we must know that we pursue our studies, complete our work, and represent UMBC with integrity. This web site and UMBC’s academic integrity initiative are intended to remind the UMBC community about the meaning and importance of academic integrity and to help each of us communicate our expectations to students, staff, and faculty."
