THE ROLE OF A STUDENT OR
FACULTY/STAFF MENTOR IS TO:
• Provide an honors university experience to all students at UMBC
• Welcome new students to UMBC in the same personalized fashion extended to scholarship students
• “Put a face” on UMBC by offering new students an informal, personal connection to the campus

GOALS FOR 2007–08
• Target 100 new first-year students to start Campus Connect
• Enlist 25 former Woolies (Welcome Week leaders) to serve as Campus Connect student mentors
• Hire three undergraduate coordinators to handle programming, marketing and organize student mentors
• Increase visibility of Campus Connect on campus
• Implement assessment instrument for continued improvement

EVENTS
Each semester, Campus Connect will sponsor several events to recruit new mentors, and pair them with students who are looking for some extra help and guidance. Regular events being planned include a mid-semester Gala Kick-off, where students and mentors will get to know each other in an informal setting, and an end-of-the-year reception. Mentors are also encouraged to touch-base with your student regularly throughout the semester, over lunch, at campus activities or simply by e-mail.
