CSI: Collegiate Success Institute begins with a Summer Bridge Program. Saturday, June 13th - Friday, July 24th, 2009

Who:

Are you a new freshman who has been admitted to UMBC for Fall 2010?

Are you looking to get ahead on

  • academics,
  • friendships,
  • knowledge and practice of what it takes to succeed at UMBC?

We will select 40 eligible, new students who will begin classes at UMBC in Summer 2010.

Space is limited and applications are required.

Applications will be available in December. To receive more information in the meantime, please click here.

What is CSI?

As you think about becoming a UMBC Retriever you may wonder how and where you will fit in. As a CSI student, you will enter the academic year already connected to the University because you will have participated in a Summer Bridge Program. During the six weeks of CSI’s Summer Bridge you will:

  • take academic courses which will put you a step ahead of other new students.
  • uncover campus resources and specific techniques for success.
  • meet other new students, faculty and staff while participating in a variety of trips and events (see FAQs for list of possible activities).

Throughout your first year you will receive personalized support for academic and personal concerns as well as the possibility for shared academic experiences with those fellow students whom you meet during CSI. You will help us decide how to continue to support the group’s success.

When is Summer Bridge?

2010 dates TBA

Where:

The campus of UMBC and area surrounding campus, including the towns of Catonsville and Arbutus as well as the City of Baltimore

Top 5 reasons to participate:

100% of the students who participated in CSI 2009 would recommend the experience to other new students. These students also said:

  1. The small class size allowed us to create community and help each other.
  2. We had a glimpse into the college workload, what college professors are like and the resources to help us do well. We became more comfortable with how to approach a professor and the best ways to study and how long to study.
  3. We had a chance to absorb more information than orientation covers. We left knowing the fun things to do on and off-campus and we learned about the important policies.
  4. We have UMBC course credit! For many of us, this allowed us to move on to other higher level courses.
  5. CSI was an awesome way to get acclimated to the campus, meet new people and make friends.
