"Our
mission is to produce outstanding teachers and offer resources
and opportunities that will assist educators in enriching the
lives of students from early childhood education through college.
UMBC is a full partner in K-16 education by collaborating on
curriculum, offering teachers professional development opportunities,

Welcome
to UMBC's K-16 Web site
Education in a productive, engaged society begins long before
kindergarten and extends long beyond achievement of university
degrees. As a public university, UMBC embraces a social responsibility
to support high-quality education throughout the region and to
assist public elementary and secondary schools in preparing students
for higher education. As a research university, we seek out new
methods of education while measuring and analyzing results of
existing methods.
Through the Department of Education, UMBC prepares individuals
to become educators, provides continuing professional development
and offers advanced degrees for elementary and secondary teachers.
Teachers throughout the region affiliate with UMBC to become highly
qualified within the rubric of No Child Left Behind.
Through this Web site we seek to promote K-16 collaboration, share
best practices and facilitate easy access to campus and community
resources. I invite all persons to share their goals, programs
and successes with regard to K-16 education. If you have questions
beyond the scope of resources linked here, contact the education
department with your needs.

Special Assistant to the President for Education Initiatives
Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education
