Andrea DeSantis moved with her family to Maryland from New Jersey in 1997 when her husband’s job changed. Her career at UMBC started in the history department that year. Soon thereafter, in 1998, when a position became available, she was selected as the new administrative assistant to what was then known as the Office of Continuing Education. She served as the executive administrative assistant for the vice provost and directors of the Division of Professional Education and Training (DPET) until July 2005 when the university reorganized and established the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE).
DeSantis is now the executive administrative assistant for the dean and vice provost of this office. Some of her duties include scheduling meetings, arranging travel, drafting and finalizing correspondence, speaking with students on academic issues and arranging events (location, food and beverages, parking passes) when needed. DeSantis also works closely with all the staff in the OUE, and is typically our liaison with other offices on campus. She enjoys interacting with the students and you can often find her volunteering at campus events. She is proficient with spreadsheets, databases, Powerpoint presentations, electronic calendar and mail merges, and most recently DeSantis attended a Dreamweaver class to prepare herself to work on the new Office of Undergraduate Education’s Web site.
