Ms. Laila M. Shishineh joined UMBC in 2010 as a Program Coordinator in the Office of Undergraduate Education. In this position, she directly oversees the Collegiate Success Institute (CSI) Summer Bridge Program which involves planning the six week summer component and advising the CSI students throughout their first year on campus. In addition to working with CSI, Laila also works with other programs aimed at helping first year students achieve academic success at UMBC. Several initiatives that Laila is directly involved with include: assisting with the Discovery Scholars Living Learning Community floor, serving on the IHU Planning Committee and overseeing the IHU Peer Facilitators program, and serving as an Orientation Advisor to incoming students. Laila is also an active member of the Professional Staff Senate on campus.
Ms. Shishineh comes to UMBC from the University of Maryland, College Park. During her time at UMCP, she received her B.A. in Criminal Justice and Criminology as well as her M.A. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies with a focus on Higher Education. For four years prior to coming to UMBC, she worked at UMCP in the Orientation and New Student Programs Office where she helped run orientation for all new students as well as worked with the UNIV100/101 programs. She is truly passionate about working with first year students and excited to continue her work in this area at UMBC.
