About UMBC at Shady Grove

UMBC offers eligible transfer students the opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree in history, political science, psychology or social work at the Universities at Shady Grove. Students spend the equivalent of two years at a community college and the final two years at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, MD. UMBC is one of eight University System of Maryland institutions that offer upper-level undergraduate programs at the center. Degree Paths for Shady Grove Transfer Students

UMBC offers four degree paths for students who receive their associate's degree from a community college or from other four-year institutions. Students at Montgomery College can refer to UMBC's degree requirements for the history, political science, psychology and social work programs.

Application Requirements for Shady Grove Transfer Students

The Admissions Committee evaluates transfer applicants on the basis of their academic record at previous institutions. Cumulative grade point average, performance trends, strength of curriculum and performance in courses related to the intended area of study are considered.

Candidates for Shady Grove transfer admission must submit the following:

  • A completed UMBC-Shady Grove Undergraduate Admissions Application or

  • Official transcript from each college or university attended. Transcripts should be mailed directly to UMBC from the registrar of each institution
  • A list of courses in progress (if not included on the current school transcript)
  • A $50 nonrefundable application fee
  • A final transcript must be sent upon completion of any course work in progress
