Over-prepared and Under-stressed
I chose to transfer from Howard Community College to UMBC because I was interested in the accelerated master’s program offered in economic policy analysis. UMBC made it very easy for me to adjust to the new campus as a transfer student. At the transfer orientation, I was able to get acquainted with other transfer students from various community colleges. Meeting other people from a similar background helped me quickly become adjusted. The UMBC academic advisors helped me schedule my first semester with ease. On the first day of classes, there were many people stationed around campus to help me find my way, which helped me adjust to the larger campus size.

The transfer process was very easy. At Howard Community College, I attended various transfer seminars and advising sessions, which were especially helpful in providing me information about important deadlines and application requirements. Using the articulation system, ARTSYS, I knew ahead of time how my classes from Howard would transfer to UMBC. The staff at Howard was especially helpful in advising me so that the classes I took fulfilled all of the program requirements for a financial economics major at UMBC.

When I transferred, I had more of the general education requirements and major requirements completed than many of my friends pursuing an economics degree at UMBC from their freshmen year. And, the admissions office at UMBC was very helpful in answering any questions that I had, making what I anticipated being a stressful process very exciting and stress-free.

Chris is pursuing a B.A./M.A. in Economic Policy Analysis and plans to work as a public policy analyst, focusing on retirement policy.
