Balancing it All
Being a student athlete is a privilege. It is hard work but it has made me the person that I am today. I have managed to
balance school and research with basketball while learning many other skills, like multi-tasking, how to be a good leader and
teamwork. The key to balancing is to try not to think about all of it at the same time! I take one task at a time, stick to
schedules and try to stay motivated.
The professors in the psychology department have been great. I work with Dr. Schultz in the Social Development Lab and he has been very supportive of basketball and understanding with time constraints. I have had two classes with Dr. Bediako and he has helped me a lot. He is a big supporter of our team, too.
Though it is hard to maintain the balance of everything at once, it is also rewarding. It was an honor to be the first team to win the America East and go on to the NCAA tournament. It was exciting to play such a great, storied team as the University of Connecticut and the support from our crowd rivaled the UConn crowd. I knew we had a lot of support on campus, but it was nice to see such strong support when we were playing at such an intense level of competition.
