The Amount of Energy In Snack Foods
This project used Calorimetry to determine the energy in different food samples. The food samples were Marshmallows, Party Mix Doritos, Cheetos, Party Mix Pretzels, Peanut Butter Granola Bars, and Lay's Potato Chips. It was predicted that marshmallows would use a significant amount of calories because they are high in sugar and are hard to burn. Likewise, potato chips would also use a significant amount of calories because they are dry , greasy, and will burn for a longer time. The results indicated that Lay's potato chips contained the most energy (0.53 Kcal/g.) and pretzels contained the least energy (0.4 kcal/g.). It appears that foods higher in unsaturated fat burn more efficiently and contain more calories. This experiment could be replicated using dry foods. |
