PGC
Welcome to PGC!! Well, you may ask, what is PGC and what does it stand for? The Peer Group Connection Program (PGC) is designed by the Princeton Center for Leadership Training based in Princeton, New Jersey. PGC is a peer leadership program that allows upperclassmen to serve as role models for underclassmen. To become PGC leaders, upperclassmen apply, and if accepted are trained in facilitation. With the guidance of PGC advisors, they are given the necessary skills on how to lead discussions and acivities about topics that are relevant to adolescents. Many of the topics explored during PGC sessions include peer pressure, culture/ethnicity, academic and social demands and many other interesting subjects.
PGC serves as a safe envirnment for young adults to openly express themselves and to ultimately develop vital life skills that will help them in their current and future endeavors.
As PGC leaders, Upward Bound rising Seniors are given an opportunity to apply and if selected, must adhere to the following guidelines:
- Attend weekend retreat
- Accept responsibilty of being a role model to their peers and underclassmen
- Take a leadership course during the summer
- Co-lead weekly outreach sessions during the summer and quarterly during the academic year
- Obtain parental consent to participate
