Summer Instructor
Positions Available:
History/Study Skills (Primarily Government HSA Prep and Study Skills)
Mathematics (HSA Prep, Alg. I, Alg. II, Geo., Trig. , and/or SAT Math)
Science (Biology/HSA Prep, Chemistry and Physics)
Foreign Language (Spanish and French: Level I-IV of high school instruction)
English (English II/HSA Prep, English III, English IV and SAT Verbal)
SUMMARY: The Academic Instructor assists high school students in the Upward Bound program prepare for post-secondary education by providing daily instruction in college preparatory courses in all levels.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides daily instruction to program participants by one on one and small group teaching sessions. Prepares lessons, and administers quizzes and exams which measure academic progress.
- Performs classroom administrative duties such as taking attendance, recording and submitting grades and other record keeping duties.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with program participants and their parents, high school teachers, counselors and administration.
- Responsible for participating in professional development opportunities, such as faculty meetings and conferences, consistent with program goals and responsibilities as approved by the supervisor.
- Other duties within the scope of the division’s responsibilities as defined by the supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree; current Secondary teaching certification preferred.
- Must have computer skills, such as ability to use word processing and email.
- Must have excellent organizational skills in order to handle several tasks simultaneously.
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule as necessary for attendance at student meetings, conferences, etc.
- Must be able to work successfully with diverse populations.
Salary: $30/hour (10-20 hours/week) for 5 weeks.
