4:00pm in the Women's Center

Dr. Kriste Lindenmeyer will talk about the anti-child marriage campaign. She will mainly focus in Mary Richmond's anti-marriage campaign in the 1910's and 20's. The women activists at the time fought and gained the right to vote. Another major concern of the era was to raise the minimum age of sexual consent and the minimum age at marriage laws. This fight to change laws was an effort to redefine the status of adult women as independent from that of children and adolescents. In return, twentieth century adolescents have consequences to face.
