January 5 – 23

Winter Session 2014

SCHEDULE ADJUSTMENT

Schedule adjustment period (January 5-8):

  • Registration remains open during the schedule adjustment period (the first four days of winter session).
  • Due to the condensed nature of winter session, schedule adjustments during the firs week of classes should be considered carefully.
  • See Registration Resources for details on how to add, drop, or swap courses in myUMBC.

Add a course during schedule adjustment:

  • You can still register for winter sessions courses from January 5 through 8.
  • Once classes begin, check with the instructor before adding a new course to ensure that you can make up missed work.
  • The instructor reserves the right to deny late registration in classes that have already met.
  • Courses added during the schedule adjustment period will be assessed a non-refundable $20 late registration fee.

Drop a course during schedule adjustment:

  • If you drop a course during the schedule adjustment period, you will receive a pro-rated refund based on the date the course is dropped.
  • Courses dropped during the schedule adjustment period are not considered an attempt.
  • If a course is dropped after the schedule adjustment period, the transcript will reflect a "W" for the course.

Swap a course during schedule adjustment:

  • During the schedule adjustment period, you can simultaneously add and drop a class (same number of credits) with no financial penalty.
  • Check with the instructor before adding a new course to ensure that you can make up missed work.
  • The instructor reserves the right to deny late registration in classes that have already met.

After the schedule adjustment period:

  • After January 8, registration is closed, and most schedule adjustment will require Registrar's Office assistance.
  • You can use myUMBC to drop a course through January 16. This will count as an attempt, and you will receive a grade of "W" on your transcript.  There is no financial refund for the course.  After January 16, you cannot drop a course without a full semester withdrawal (see information below) from winter session.
  • You can change your course grade method from "regular" to "pass/fail"through January 16. Submit a myUMBC Help Ticket to the Registrar's Office.

Semester withdrawal:

  • After January 16, the only way to drop a winter course is to withdraw entirely from the semester (drop ALL courses in the winter session term).
  • Submit a myUMBC Help Ticket to the Registrar's Office requesting a "semester withdrawal".
  • The Registrar's Office will drop all courses in the winter session.
  • Your transcript will reflect a "Session Withdrawal".
  • The deadline for a semester withdrawal is January 22.
