Library closed on Saturdays beginning May 22, 2010

As a cost savings measure, the library will be closed on Saturdays beginning May 22, 2010 through August 21, 2010.

I'm disappointed to find out the AOK Library will not be open on Saturdays, especially since the Arbutus library will be closed for at least 6 weeks this summer.

I have no internet access where I live and the campus library is my closest study venue where I can use Blackboard and other resources for homework. I appreciate the extensive quantity of books, the non-child environment, and numerous computers available at UMBC.

I do understand the need to minimize expense in today's economy, but also wanted to express my chagrin.

This is really unfortunate. Why not only open part of the library (like the first 3 floors) on Saturdays and trim an hour or two from every day to save the same cost?
