POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Genome Analyst plays a key role in the genome mapping process as a primary reviewer and analyzer of the Optical Mapping data. Working closely with the genome mapping group, the analyst reviews maps prior to release to customers or to our mapping database. The analyst also employees a variety of bioinformatics tools for comparative genomics, annotating genome maps and generating map-based similarity clustering. This position has significant interaction with customers by relaying results, reviewing analysis and serving as a point of contact.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS

• Review and annotate Optical Mapping data.
• Perform a wide range of bioinformatics tools to conduct genome analysis.
• Convey results to customers and occasionally serve as a technical resource.

EDUCATION/SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED

• BS in molecular biology or related discipline. A background in microbiology desired.
• 2+ years experience employing bioinformatics tools and complex software systems to conduct genome analysis. Sequencing or microarray background preferred. Prior experience in an FDA regulated industry also desired.
• Familiarity with basic Unix / Linux commands; ability to generate basic scripts preferred but not required.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively articulate complex, technical information to scientists.
• Superb organizational skills and ability to pay close attention to detail required.
