Baby Boomers Beware

That video sure paints a different picture of kids-these-days than the recent "60 Minutes" shows that have talked about how spoiled kids are and how e.g. the parents of a kid might actually call the Human Resources department of the company where the kid works to complain about the kids' recent performance review, etc.

I get two entirely different feelings! Which is true? Probably some combination of both...

I find it interesting that a group whose message seems to tout "never trust anybody over 30" also has this to say about their own generation:

"[Generation] We is ready to call a halt to “culture wars” that pit people of different religions, races, ethnicities, regions, cultures, values, and sexual orientations against one another for political gain."

So, in summary, culture wars are bad unless they are between generations.

I think it is a powerful message but all one sided and I got a bit upset. I agree with the negatives but what about the positives, better communication, PC, closer cures for diseases, technology improvemnts and so on. There is terrorism and Iran but no threat of a World War or nuclear bombing such as in the early 60's with bomb shelters and going under our desks and the overall quality of life is better. Yes, I see what happens in North Philly and in the 9th ward of New Orleans so I am not one sided but this was just braodcast was negative and putting middle age and older totally down.

Yeah, let's start a fight between generations, that is helpful.

They find fault, "we" are now more aware and taking action but a bit late. There has always been a movement but not a popular as it is now.

Grace Slick popularized don't trust over 30 and her birthday is today. They/we helped generate more freedom of thought, speach, women's liberation, think out of the box, and much more.

This makes us like we did not care.

Interestingly, the messages of these younger folks are mirror images of the issues that the "Baby Boomers" presented to society and our government. We started this global awareness and I am proud of the "We" generation for moving forward with what we started.

I applaud their perspective and forward movement. May they understand that all people, regardless or race, age, orientation are valuable.

Every generation builds upon each other for the betterment of our planet.

Sophie commented that "Every generation builds upon each other for the betterment of our planet," which ironically (or perhaps purposefully) endorses the importance of both intergenerational and intragenerational cooperation that we've discussed in AGNG 100. In any case, change is essential to progress and cooperation (and in some cases conflict) is necessary for change.
