Environment: University of Maryland Medical School laboratory studying brain development and biological psychiatry.
Duties: Include: extraction and measurement of RNA, DNA and protein from tissue. Polymerase chain reaction, in situ hybridization, western blots. Preparation and microscopic analysis of brain tissue specimens. Quantitative data analysis using computers. Animal breeding, behavior testing, euthnasia and dissection. Ordering of supplies, preparation of solutions and general lab maintenance. Record keeping for all the preceding functions.
Qualifications: Minimum education requirement: Bachelor’s degree. Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in neuroscience, biology or related fields.
Other requirements: 2-year commitment preferred. Candidates must have some college or work experience in a laboratory. Preferred types of experience include cell or molecular biology, biology, neuroscience (examples - neuroanatomy, animal behavior testing).
