On Monday, January 19th, 2009, a group of UMBC folks (students, staff, and faculty) are going to help with a service project at Waverly Elementary/Middle School located in Northeast Baltimore City (across from where Memorial Stadium used to be).
For those that are in the area and available, it would be great to have your extra set of hands! There are several projects needed to be done on this day - painting a mural within the school as well as hallways and bathrooms, and organizing the new Parent Room. Members of the community as well as parents and some students will be volunteering. On Friday, January 16th, a group of almost 20 staff from Res Life are going to Waverly Elementary/Middle School to assist with getting these projects prepped for Monday, January 19th, as well as tackling a few other tasks.
Shriver Center Vans can fit the first 30 people who respond. The time for the event is 9am-2pm, which would require leaving UMBC at about 8:15 am and should return by 2:30 pm.
