The National Science Foundation has funded an REU in Bioengineering at Saint Louis University, BE@SLU. The goal of the program is to garner excitement about bioengineering through research early in the undergraduate career. We are currently recruiting for students who are entering or in their first year of college. Other students are eligible, especially students who are transferring from a community college. In addition to early stage undergraduates, the program seeks to provide mentoring opportunities for more advanced students.
Highlights of BE@SLU 2010 include:
- Stipend of $4050 for the 9 week program; peer mentors will receive additional funds
- Housing on campus and a food subsidy
- Travel stipends up to $500 for out of town students; additional funds are available to travel to national conferences
- Research project, seminars, presentations, career development, and social activities
- Variety of project mentors and research areas in bioengineering - view projects from 2009
The 9 week summer program will not only have students actively participate in research, but also have several organized events that will expose students to various career opportunities. Planned summer activities include trainings, industry tours and career panels.
Applications are due March 15, 2010. All students accepted into the program will receive a stipend & housing, along with budgets for food and travel.
