Paid On-campus Opportunity: Spring Mechanical Engineering Internship with RMF

The RMF Engineering Infrastructure Division is seeking a mechanical engineering student for a Spring 2011 paid internship. RMF is located in the Research Park immediately adjacent to UMBC's main campus. During the semester, RMF requires a 15 – 20 hour per week time commitment. The intern’s work schedule can be coordinated around class schedules, but is expected to be consistent. Time off is granted as needed for exams. Our normal business hours are 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. During the summer, the intern is expected to work full time.

About RMF Engineering:
RMF Engineering is a privately held company that was started in 1982. There are 6 offices across the Mid-Atlantic, with headquarters in the Baltimore office. RMF provides design and engineering services for all aspects of building construction including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and HVAC. The firm also provides campus master planning services, energy conservation surveys, pressure vessel inspections, condition inspections, and building commissioning. RMF coordinates the installation of ‘off the shelf’ components in the built environment. RMF does not do research, Finite Element Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, or individual component design.

About the Infrastructure Division:
The Infrastructure Division specifically provides engineering services for central utility power plants and utility distribution. Central utility power plants can be found on most campuses, including UMBC. These plants typically generate steam and electricity for campus usage. The Infrastructure Division specializes in phased designs that allow campuses to replace obsolete or failed equipment, while maintaining utility service to the campus users.

About the Intern’s Duties:
Calculations associated with designs, cost estimating associated with designs, converting engineer corrections of drawings into AutoCad, copying, printing, binding, and shipping of design documents. Duties in the summer will likely involve field investigation. Field investigation includes work in boiler plants, utility tunnels, and manholes. These environments are typically loud, hot, poorly lit, and otherwise uncomfortable. All work will in the office and field will be under the direct supervision of an engineer.

RMF will be conducting on-campus interviews on February 9th. Resume submission will close February 3, so be sure to apply through UMBCworks today! Applicants are encouraged to attend an Information Session at 12:00 noon prior to the interviews on February 9th. Location: TBD.
