Current Awareness Using RSS Feeds and Email Alerts

Save time by having the latest articles in your research area automatically delivered to one convenient location. RSS feeds and email alerts simplify the process of keeping up-to-date with information from your favorite blogs, news-based Web sites, e-journals, and more.

This hands-on workshop will explain RSS feeds and email alert services and help you to set them up from your preferred databases and web sites.

Journal Citation Reports - Faculty/Staff Workshop

Participants in this Library workshop will learn how to employ this user-friendly evaluation tool to help make decisions in selecting scholarly journals for professional reading or publishing.

This workshop will introduce the search features of the JCR database and will explain important metrics such as impact factor. Hands-on practice will be included to help reinforce what is taught.

Library Basics - Workshop for Students

This workshop is designed to provide undergraduate students with the basic knowledge of a university library's resources and services in order to help them succeed at UMBC. It covers topics such as managing your library account, using catalogusmai and journal databases, reading LC call numbers, and the various ways to get assistance. The September 15 workshop will be delivered in person in the Library instruction room, while the September 23 workshop will available as an online workshop in which participants can login from any computer with internet access. Participants will also be able to get personal assistance from a librarian during the sessions.

September 15, 2009; 4:30-5:30 – In person workshop in LIB 259
September 23, 2009; 4:30-5:30 – Online workshop (participants will receive instructions upon registering)

EndNote Web Workshop for Faculty and Staff

August 14, 2008 12-1 pm (LIB 259)

This workshop, part of the Library Tech Talks series, will introduce participants to a range of features included in this free web-accessible citation manager.

This workshop will focus on setting up an EndNote Web account, importing database citations, web-based citations or searching and importing resources through EndNote Web, using the Cite While You Write for Microsoft Word plug-in and setting up and/or sharing project folders.

Web of Science / Web of Knowledge Workshop for Faculty and Staff

July 29, 2008 12-1 pm (LIB 259)

This workshop, part of the Library Tech Talks series, will introduce faculty and staff to this multidisciplinary database that provides literature access to the highest-quality journals across the arts, humanities, sciences and social sciences.

This hands-on workshop will focus on cited and citing reference searching, filtering and analyzing search results and setting up search alert emails or RSS feeds.
