Software Engineer Intern

Sourcefire is looking for an intern for our Product Development team to help with simulation and scalability testing environment. The position would be for 16 hours a week during the semester. Ideally the internship would start during the winter break so the intern could focus on getting their feet wet without being distracted from school. Ideally, we’re looking for a CompSci major in their 3rd year (or thereabouts).
The ideal candidate will have:
- some programming experience with Perl and C, and be comfortable in a Linux/Unix environment. (2 out of three could suffice)
- good conceptual understanding of data structures
Initially, the intern's responsibility will be configuring and running scalability tests. Once the testing processes and environment are clear, the intern would be given the responsibility of improving the Perl infrastructure surrounding the testing environment and statics gathering.
The intern will work on a team of 5 senior developers that are primarily responsible for managing our high performance database, secure communications, and various other back-end aspects of our enterprise management solution. Working within this group will provide first hand experience working within a commercial software engineering organization at a high paced product company. It’s a pretty exciting environment and there is A LOT to learn.
