National Student Partnerships

Looking for a spring 2008 service-learning placement? Come this Monday, November 19th at noon to Public Policy 107 to find out more information on National Student Partnerships (NSP).

NSP strives to mobilize student leaders to strengthen communities. Volunteers at National Student Partnerships (NSP) work one-on-one with low-income community members to help them search for housing, employment, public benefits, to create resumes and apply for jobs, to lend support. Students use their skills on the computer, searching the internet,
and utilizing the resources around them, to work with clients in finding answers in the social service system and in the community. Volunteers will receive resource and service training, but are not expected to have answers ready for clients or be the "expert." The volunteer-client relationship is founded on a common ground of searching together.

Volunteers are asked to commit to one, 2-4 hour shift per week, within the time frame of Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm. While volunteers' primary responsibility is to provide client service, there also exist many opportunities for leadership positions and other areas of work in the office. These include, but are not limited to, media relations, resource updating, agency visits, volunteer trainings on resources or special topics (e.g. immigrant services, civic involvement, etc.). Local Director positions may also be applied for in the spring.
