*Special paid summer internship program being offered at the Kauffman Foundation*

This is targeted to top students with at least two years of college who are interested in any of the following topics: entrepreneurship, advancing innovation, minority entrepreneurship, science and math education, new learning technologies, research, policy, law, and finance. The program, housed in the Foundation offices in Kansas City, is unique in that individual students will be partnered with their special interest areas: Education, Entrepreneurship, Research and Policy, Communications, etc. Collectively the group will network across the Foundation, participate in professional development activities, receive mentoring from Foundation associates, benefit from the Kauffman Foundation extensive relationships with grantees, universities, educators, researchers, policy makers, and entrepreneurs, plus be introduced to Kansas City area historical and cultural events. The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Fellows Internship Program is designed to introduce Maryland’s most promising college students to the rewards and challenges of working within Maryland’s integrated transportation system. Interns can gain experience in policy development, marketing, international relations, computer networking, engineering, planning and financing, public relations, public administration, neighborhood conservation and in many other areas. Placement opportunities are available at the MD Aviation Administration, MD Port Administration, MD Transit Administration, Motor Vehicle Administration, State Highway Administration, MD Transportation Authority, and The Secretary’s Office that serves as Headquarters for the MDOT.
Participating student earn $3,500 during eight weeks this summer (June 11 to August 3) and $10.00 per hour in a part-time internship beyond the eight weeks either during the Summer 2007, Fall 2007, Winter 2008 and/or Spring 2008 semester.

PAID Full-time Internships for Summer 2007

Minority Access, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) non-profit educational organization which administers internships for Federal agencies and other entities, is accepting applications from qualified college students, undergraduates and graduates, for paid full time internships for Summer 2007. The deadline for applying is March 1, 2007.

The program allows gifted college students to experience the wide scope and diversity of career opportunities. Interns placed through Minority Access have designed web pages, created spreadsheets and databases, conducted research, drafted proposals, authored publications, assisted in formulating policies, suggested cost saving innovations and provided fresh approaches to completing many other assignments. Minority Access supports individuals, institutions, Federal agencies and corporations of all kinds to diversify their campuses and work sites by improving the recruitment, retention and enhancement of minorities.

We provide students with pre-employment training to facilitate a smooth transition to the program; seminars and workshops to enhance professional and personal growth; opportunities for social interaction among interns of diverse backgrounds; and other activities throughout the summer. Shriver Center Scholarships Available

The Shriver Center will be awarding two Scholarships in the amount of $750.00 each to deserving UMBC students. Any student who has successfully completed at least a single semester of a Co-op, Internship, Community Service & Learning, Scholars or International Work & Service placement is eligible to apple for these scholarships. The scholarship award can only be used toward tuition for Fall 2007. Graduating seniors and anyone on a full scholarship are not eligible for this Shriver Center scholarship.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

IMMEDIATE NEED - An undergraduate research assistant position is available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Candidates with an undergraduate major in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or Biology are preferred. The student will be expected to work 10-20 hours per week starting February 2007 and the appointment may last up to a year. The position entails assisting graduate students in the Ghosh group with general laboratory activities in return for a competitive campus wage and gained experience and knowledge in analytical measurements and research methods for the remediation of persistent organic pollutants in environmental media.
