Dr. William E. Kirwan, Chancellor of the University of Maryland will address MEEC members and vendors as the Keynote speaker for the 6th annual MEEC Member Conference and Vendor Showcase.
Chancellor Kirwan is well known and respected for his leadership in many areas, including: advancing access, affordability, and student degree completion; championing academic transformation and innovation; nurturing collaboration among all levels of education; and strengthening USM’s role in driving competitiveness and economic development.
Active nationally, Chancellor Kirwan chairs the National Research Council Board of Higher Education and Workforce and the College Board Advocacy & Policy Center Advisory Committee, and serves on several other boards. Among his many statewide service activities are chairing the Maryland Longitudinal Data Systems Center Governing Board and serving on the Governor’s P-20 Leadership Council of Maryland.
His many honors include the TIAA-CREF Theodore M. Hesburgh Award for Leadership (2010) and the Carnegie Corporation Leadership Award (2009).
Dr. Kirwan received his doctoral and master’s degrees from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and his bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky, all in mathematics.
