Spring 2010 Internship with the Internal Revenue Service in DC!

The Internal Revenue Service is recruiting undergraduate students of all majors for a paid 15-week long Spring 2010 internship! Accepted participants receive scholarships covering the costs of The Washington Center’s Academic Program in addition to providing furnished housing facilities during the internship. Interns will also be provided with living stipends.

Qualifications:
· United States citizenship;
· Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program of any major with a GPA of 3.5 or above;
· Undergraduate students must receive credit for participating in this program (if you have questions regarding this requirement, please contact katie.mckenzie@twc.edu);
· Available for a fifteen-week period beginning January 21st, 2010;
· Demonstrated experience and/or strong interest in working for the federal government.
· Preference will be given to students with evidence of community service or involvement.

How to Apply:
Students should fill out an online application at http://secure.twc.edu. Students create a login name and password. They should select “Internship” in the drop down menu. They should then select Option 2, “Government Scholarship Programs”. Students are asked to select our Department of Commerce Application, as we are currently in the process of updating our other application materials. There is no application fee for our Government Scholarship Programs. If students are prompted to provide payment information, they have selected the wrong internship application and should go back to select “Government Scholarship Programs”. Web Design Internshp with Sinclair Broadcasting!

Sinclair Broadcast Group's Corporate Web Department is looking for a web design intern to work approximately 20 hours per week. This is an unpaid SPRING internship.

You will learn about the web design, maintenance and development of the television station websites and the intranet. You will assist with entry level tasks related to the development, maintenance and updating of all company websites and the intranet. There may also be opportunities for this person to work with other staff members on development of social networking pages such as Facebook and Twitter.

The ideal candidate will be a good communicator, well-organized and able to multi-task. You should have experience (in a job or classroom setting) with Dreamweaver and HTML. Knowledge of CSS, XML, Javascript and Flash is a plus.

Production Intern with R&L Publishing!

The Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group’s production department is looking for an intern. The production intern takes on many of the same tasks as our editorial assistants, providing valuable insight into the book publishing process and a taste of the entry-level employee’s role in a busy production department. Tasks include processing Cataloging-in-Publication (CiP) data applications; online copyright applications; proofreading and checking indexes; proofreading cover “matchprints”; reconciling invoices; filing production folders; reviewing camera-ready sample pages; and updating our “Crime Photo” database.

Our ideal candidate is an individual with a major in the humanities (preferably English), attention to detail, and a desire to earn experience in the book publishing industry. As our department ultimately handles both the editorial and technical aspects of book publishing, the experience that a dedicated intern can gain will prove invaluable to a future career in publishing.

Great Tourism Internship with Baltimore County!

The Conference and Tourism unit in Baltimore County's Department of Economic Development is a newly created team working to create the product and marketing strategy to increase business and leisure travel and tourism in Baltimore County.

The Conference and Tourism unit is searching for a school year intern that could extend into the summer. This is an exciting opportunity for students interested in working for a start-up organization in the public sector. The student will gain valuable experience in market research, customer service, public administration, tourism and hospitality, communications, and promotions.

The intern will serve as a part-time (10-20 hours) contractual volunteer working with the Conference and Tourism Director, while contributing to the units new strategy.

Responsibilities vary, but may include staffing the front desk of the Visitor
Center, researching and creating a database of the tourism products in Baltimore County, inputting and analyzing primary and secondary data, writing original content for promotional pieces, e-newsletters, the web, and memos, and assisting on special projects.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Enrollment in an institution of higher learning, preferably with a concentration in marketing, economics, communications, public policy, hospitality management, or business.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proven analytical skills.
Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task and/or
prioritize.
Strong computer skills in Microsoft applications a must.

Federal Reserve Board Seeking PAID Photography Intern!

The Photographers Assistant Intern provides support to the Board’s staff photographer and will be responsible for photographing routine assignments autonomously, working as part of a shooting team for large events, and assisting with studio and location photography. The Assistant will perform image post processing functions, including proofing, printing, large format printing, basic touch-up, color correction, scaling, and filing. The Photographic Assistant will create both online and DVD based gallery and image presentation packages, and will help maintain photo databases by attaching keyword information to archived image files to allow the databases to be searchable. The Assistant is responsible for matting and framing new photographs and repairing frames and images already displayed at the Board. Additionally, the Assistant will support Graphic Center designers work by providing general project support where needed.

Qualifications

Position requires a strong grounding in traditional photography, using both digital and film based technologies. Candidates should have basic working knowledge of photographic studio workflow practices. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite products, especially Photoshop, InDesign, and Lightroom, are a must. Familiarity with photographic presentation techniques, including traditional matting and framing as well as digital presentation, is required. Candidates should be prepared to show a portfolio of their photographic work and discuss the techniques used to create the images contained in the portfolio.

Quickstar Productions in Baltimore is looking for an intern who wants to learn the music biz!

The responsibilities of the intern would be focused on helping with tasks such as client scouting, client management, and contract negotiations. Students would gain experience in handling clients for the acquisition through the sales process with email and phone interactions. General office duties like product preparation and shipping, as well as proofing and interoffice relations would apply periodically. If applicable, the intern would handle tech based operations such as graphic design elements and music mastering. The intern would also closely shadow the B2B manager to completely understand the day to day operations of a company, as well as the problem solving and quick thinking skills required to run a small business. Like video games? See what it's like to work for a gaming company.

This Friday, 4/10, the Shriver Center will be heading up to Big Huge Games to give students an opportunity to hear from folks inside the gaming industry. If you have any interest in gaming this is definitely a "don't miss" experience.

The van will leave the Shriver Center promptly at 12:30 on Friday, and will return around 3:30 to UMBC later that afternoon. Lunch will not be provided, so be sure to grab a bite to eat before you leave.

FBI employees are responsible for protecting and defending the United States against terrorists and spies; upholding and enforcing the criminal laws of the United States; and providing leadership and criminal justice services to our international, federal, state, and local partners. Last Two Weeks to Obtain Intern Credit and/or Get Your Internship, Research, or Co-op Added to your Transcript for Spring 2009

Have you found the internship or research position of your dreams on your own, but just don't know how to get credit for it this spring semester? Do you want a notation on your transcript for all your hard work, but are unsure how to proceed?

Well look no further! The staff at the UMBC Shriver Center is here to help!

That internship you found is important to obtain admission to graduate school and to find employment after graduation. You gain experience, can get paid, and could potentially obtain three upper level credits, all by interning only 8 to 10 hours per week.

Best of all, if you found an internship, co-op, or research position on your own for the spring, you can get the notation on your transcript (FREE OF CHARGE) - and be on your way to possibly receiving credit- its not too late. That's right, the deadline to add the intern notation or obtain credit for the spring semester is in two weeks.

IN ORDER TO GET YOUR INTERNSHIP/CO-OP/RESEARCH POSITION TO BE ADDED TO YOUR TRANSCRIPT:

1. Either call (410-455-2493) or stop by the Shriver Center on the ground floor of the Public Policy Building to make an appointment with a Coordinator.
2. Get a letter/memo from your employer (on company letterhead) verifying that you are interning 8-10 hours per week and bring it to your appointment.
3. Meet with your Coordinator to get enrolled in the Practicum (to have the notation put on your transcript as a university sanctioned experience) and have your potential credit options explained to you.
4. Enjoy your internship, co-op, or research position!

HACU National Internship Program: Summer Intern Deadline- 2/27

HACU National Internship Program program recruits college students for paid summer and semester-long internships at federal agencies and private corporations in Washington, D.C., and throughout the country. These ten and fifteen-week internship programs give college students direct experience in a myriad of careers in the federal and corporate sectors.

To date, HNIP has helped over 7,000 students find internships that closely relate to their majors or career goals. Though we started in 1992 with only 24 interns working at one participating federal agency, we have expanded our program each year. In 2008, we helped match over 600 students to internships at over 40 federal agencies and corporations.

Seeking Creative Individual for Project Management, Research and Design!

Christos J. Palios, Baltimore-based panorama artist, will shoot a photographic period piece as a scene from daily life in the 1930s through the 1940s. While working closely with a local museum, along with 15-20 models and actors, he plans to bring this project to fruition this upcoming May or June. He is seeking one enthusiastic, diligent candidate to assist on a number of levels, from initial preparations and research through to the final shoot date. At this time, this is an unpaid opportunity with potential reward and compensation upon project completion.

Position Overview: ideal candidate must exhibit congeniality and enthusiasm, genuine dedication and synergy when working with artist, museum officials, and most importantly, models and actors. Photographic experience is not mandatory; a creative and resourceful mind is essential! Organization is a must. Considering this is a period piece from a specific era in history, candidate should have knowledge and experience, if not at minimum a great willingness to research authentic clothing worn, cultural etiquette, environmental scene accuracy, prop acquisition, and other details from that time in order ensure an accurate set. Emphasis is on history and fashion/apparel. Candidate should expect approximately 3-5 hours each week for phone and in-person meetings/brainstorming sessions, research, and eventual interviews and vintage apparel shopping with models and actors.

Christos intends this to be fun, collaborative, and artistically-stimulating. Final artwork will be added to his edition-limited portfolio and advertised via various venues, including his website. Rams Head Live is hosting an Internship Open House on Friday, February 13th for prospective intern applicants. The event begins at 9:00am at Rams Head Live. A Thanksgiving Message from the Shriver Center

Are you dreading that Thanksgiving conversation?

You know, the one that goes something like:

Family-member: So, what are you going to do next summer?

You: I don't know, probably the same thing I did last year.

Family Member: Well, with all the news about the economy, I don't think it's smart to put all your eggs in one basket. And you know you can't mooch off of us another year.

Incredible Paid Marketing and Creative Internship with Erickson!

The Erickson Retirement Communities marketing and creative team is looking for a seasonal and/or part time intern to assist the Web and New Media team with assistance with developing and updating an online portfolio of web work. The ideal candidate with have minimal technical experience working with the web, good verbal and written skills, strong copy writing skills and a strong desire to work in a creative and collaborative environment. Animation Studio Internship

The Institute for NanoBioTechnology (INBT) Animation Studio is looking to recruit several students to work as a team on visualizing aspects of nanobiotechnology.

Animation in Nanotechnology and Medicine

This internship involves the use of animation to visualize scientific processes in nanotechnology and medicine.

Animation is becoming an increasingly important tool in both research and education, especially in fields such as nanobiotechnology that involve complex processes and occur at multiple length scales. Understanding of the subject matter is gained through interaction with faculty and graduate students in research groups in the Institute for NanoBioTechnology at Hopkins. The internship follows the basic animation pipeline from concept to post production.

Participants should have a basic knowledge of 3d software, including experience in modelling and rendering. They are required to be available at least several hours a week.

Videography Intern Needed for UMBC Athletics

UMBC Athletics would like to offer an ongoing internshi for a student interested in videography, video production, content production, etc. in an athletic environment. They have numerous projects that would provide outstanding learning opportunities and hands-on experience. Such projects may include the production of six-eight video vignettes per semester, featuring our student athletes and being available on www.umbcretrievers.com and UMBC's you tube, production on a thirty-minute coaches program, which would air on WVIE (AM 1370) radio and be streamed live on www.umbcretrievers.tv and other pieces to air on nearly 50 radio and video streamed UMBC athletic events.
